Bandwagon-ers

I am a sports fan. I love NBA, College football, College basketball, and NFL. In that order. I do not like baseball, hockey or golf. I will however keep up with the World Series and the Stanley Cup and if the Detroit Tigers ever happen to make the playoffs, much less the World Series, I will be excited, but I will not come in the day after wearing a Tigers jersey and spouting off the stats of the team over the past decade. I do however own a Detroit Lions (Barry Sanders) jersey, University of Michigan (basketball and football) jerseys. I love the Sacramento Kings and watch every game that is televised in my area.

What this rant is about, is the people who proclaim loudly enough for everyone in a square mile to hear that they hate a particular sport; how stupid it is, how slow it is, and how un-skillful the participants are. But, when a team that they know nothing about, that they just so happened to have visited recently or know someone who knows someone who lives there, suddenly becomes a "superfan" of that team, DRIVES ME INSANE. Suddenly, they know everything about that team/sport; which pitcher will pitch in the 6th inning of game 5 to try to strike out the 5th batter in the line up, the trainers technique for taping the chubby chearleader whos only job is to be the "base" of the pyramid, and the shoesize of the halftime entertainment announcer. Just because someone you know, knows someone who lives in a sports market of a team from a sport that you admittedly never watch suddenly makes it to the World Series/Superbowl/March Madness, does NOT make you an expert on the sport. And by the way, everyone you rattle off these mundane stats too, knows your agenda, and they laugh about it when you're not around.

So, if you have no interest in a sport rather than the winning team during the playoffs, it's better for you to find another topic. Because we all know that a third of the way into next season, when none of the games matter, and there's no sense of win-or-go-home in the air, you'll be back to your old ways, telling the true fans how stupid they are for watching such a stupid sport.

Thank you and have a great day.
